If you have not heard of a green screen…wait until you hear this!
A green screen is a tool used to convert backgrounds into ANY background image you desire!
This is how motion pictures are created.
If you are a teacher…you must know that it changed the way I assessed students’ understanding forever!
Knowing the levels of understanding each student is within is very important. How do you assess this? I’m a reading specialist and I grew tired of finding creative ways to have my students show their levels of understanding. There’s really only so many dioramas and tri-fold presentations you can sit through. Oh and how about the ever-popular PowerPoint presentations? Although these methods are great and serve a wonderful purpose within our classrooms…students are not particularly excited to create them.
My students went from groaning to begging to do projects about our lessons. I kid you not!
I did encounter some issues with using a green screen for assessing though. It is extremely difficult for students, especially for some of the younger ones to create green screen projects on their own using PC devices. I have yet to find an easy way. Believe me… I tried and tried…and tried. None of them offered the ease and quality I was looking for.
I finally gave up and turned to Mr. Gates! Yes! I bought an iPad! It was my gateway into the world of Mac and I will never turn back.
My next quest was to find an App that allowed students to create green screen movies independently. After much searching I found it. The App I currently use is DoInk. You can find it here…Click the image to see it.
It sells for $4.99 and is the best under $5.00 product I’ve every purchased! I literally teach my students how to use it 1 time and they have it! The tutorial that comes with it is not the best so I created my own. This is the one I use for new students, parents, teacher aides, or others who are unable to attend our class tutorials. You can find it here…
Until the next post…
