Teachers know how hard it is to fit everything into a normal school day. Taking 20-30 minutes a day to provide self-selected reading time is huge! So how do we make sure this time is used to its fullest?
These activities can be scheduled after each SSR time or randomly scheduled. I prefer the randomly scheduled tasks. It keeps readers honest, so to speak.
Here are some ideas of activities you can provide:
Turn and Talk:
Students are paired or grouped with other students prior to this activity. When SSR ends, students simply turn and talk about what they read.
